Cockermouth’s former Jennings Brewery has failed to sell at auction.
The 19th century brewery was a lot with SDL Property Auctions today, Wednesday, March 27, with a guide price of £750,000.
However, it did not meet the reserve price. SDL said it would continue to market the site for a post-auction sale.
Owners Carlsberg Marstons put the brewery up for sale after it closed the riverside site in 2022.
Developed in 1874 by John Jennings, the once-bustling brewery sits on a 1.73 acre site.
Part of the brewery, the Grade II-listed former maltings building, had previously been granted planning permission for conversion into 16 residential flats.

The permission has since lapsed, but the auctioneers said potential investors may view it as an encouraging sign for future approval.
Carlsberg Marston has also stipulated a tenancy agreement included in the sale.
The company, which acquired the brewery in 2005, will rent part of the property on a six-month licence at a monthly rate of £2,500.
It was previously due to go to auction on March 12 with Auction House in London, but was withdrawn prior to the sale.
