Cumberland County League Premier Division leaders Maryport Athletic beat last year’s champions Wigton Harriers in the Benevolent Cup final.
A dramatic winner four minutes from the end earned Athletic a 2-1 victory and the first of what could be quite a collection of silverware.
In the game at Carlisle City’s Gillford Park Wigton had the first real chance when a header was pushed onto the bar by the Maryport keeper Craig Rule and out for a corner in the opening five minutes.
Rulee was called into action moments later saving from a close-range shot following the corner before the rebound was cleared by a defender.
After that it was a relatively even game with both sides not really testing the opposition goalkeeper.
However, Harriers took the lead in the 26th minute thanks to a great goal from Liam Lightfoot, his shot from outside the area finding the top corner.
Maryport were level three minutes before half time when Ellis Short headed home from a pinpoint free kick.
Maryport Athletic had more of the ball in the second half with good chances going over the bar than another one been saved by Harriers keeper Ben Gray.
There were only four minutes of normal time remaining when Maryport were awarded a corner and after some confusion in the box from the Wigton defence the ball ended up in the back of the net, put there by a Harriers player.
Maryport went close again before the final whistle when Alec Little hit the post and although it was a battling performance from Wigton Harriers, it was Maryport who went on to retain the trophy.
