Barrow continue to falter in their bid for a promotion play-off place in League Two as they went down 4-2 at resurgent Doncaster.
Pete Wild’s men were 2-0 ahead at half-time but after conceding a 58th minute penalty they allowed Doncaster to score twice in the last six minutes and then another in the ninth minute of time added on.
It was Doncaster’s ninth win on the spin and with two games left they look as though they can snatch a play-off place. Barrow are a point ahead of them, also with two to play and in between them are Crawley with just one match left and level on points with Doncaster.
It’s been a remarkable run by the Dons but it look as though their charge from the fringes of the relegation fight to the edge of the promotion race was going to scuppered by the south Cumbrians.
Goals from Emile Acquah and Rory Feely had given Barrow a two-goal advantage at the break from two headers.
Acquah powered one home when he met a cross by Robbie Gotts while the Feely goal came when he was able to get on the end of a corner in first-half stoppage time.
A Joe Ironside penalty reduced the deficit on 58 minutes after he had been brought down by Niall Canavan. But they were still chasing the game approaching the last five minutes.
On 84 minutes Hakeeb Adelakun raced onto a ball from Tom Anderson over the top and the finish was clinical to put the home side level.
Three minutes later Harrison Biggins was there to head Doncaster in front when he was first to a cross from Tommy Rowe.
The final act of a remarkable game was Ironside’s late tap in as Doncaster’s impressive finish to the season continued.
Both play on Tuesday – Barrow at home to Bradford and Doncaster at Colchester, who still need a point to be certain of staying up.
Then on Saturday’s final day Barrow entertain promoted Mansfield; Doncaster go to Gillingham and Crawley are at home to Grimsby.
