Cumbria’s Development Team were able to play one of their two scheduled T20 friendlies at Sedbergh School yesterday.

The first game against Durham Academy had been cancelled during the week due to the recent weather and to avoid excessive usage of the pitch.

The Development side won their remaining game against Sedbergh School by 110 runs, played in chilly but bright conditions with the pavilion out of bounds to all bar the Umpires due to building work.

The team included five who had recently toured Sri Lanka with the Under-18s and to underline the connection three who had previously attended Sedbergh School.

Batting first despite losing wickets on a regular basis they posted a total of a more than competitive 177/7 from 20 overs.

The bowling unit were too strong for the School XI who ended their allotted overs on 67/9.

Top scorers for the Development team were Furness batsman Faizan Ghumann (36) and Kendal wicket keeper Finlay Richardson (31).

The most successful bowlers for the Development team were Declan Tyson (Millom) 2/4, Max Winskill (Kendal) 2/6 and Josh Wills (Netherfield) 2/16.

The match provided valuable time in the middle for both sides after the delays to the start of the season.

Ghumman, Tyson, Wills, Josh Brown and Ollie Greenwood were all in Sri Lanka while Winskill, Evan Williams and Greg Cameron are ex-Sedbergh School.
