Maltese international Zarrin Galea will make his Workington Town debut against Cornwall at the Fibrus Community Stadium tomorrow.
Galea jetted into the UK this week and the 23-year-old is a player the club have monitored for over a year now but due to visa issues, they could not get his recruitment across the line until recently.
Galea plays mainly centre and is a dual rugby international with Malta and has played at a very good level in Australia.
“He is a proven try scorer at every level he’s played, a powerful outside back with genuine pace.”
Australian by birth Galea played in the French Elite Two division with RC Salon XIII – nicknamed ‘The Jaguars’ – a team in Salon-de-Provence, Bouches-du-Rhône in the Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur region last year.
He has had experience in Australia for the Wynnum Manly Seagulls – Brisbane Broncos’ feeder team.
Town regard him as a smart capture who is going to add bite to their attack as they look to chase down the two favourites for League One promotion Oldham and Keighley.
They should see-off the Cornish challenge as the Choughs have struggled in their opening games and last week were blitzed 72—6 at home by the Midlands Hurricanes.
Town squad tomorrow is: Carl Forber, Chris Taylor, Connor Saunders, Ellis Archer, Ethan Bickerdike, Grant Reid, Jack Stephenson, Jake Bradley, Jake Lightowler, Jarrad Sammut, Jason Mossop, JJ Key, Jonny Hutton, Jordan Burns, Jordan Thomson, Liam McNicholas, Luke Charlton, Matty Henson, Sean Croston, Tyler Walton, Zarrin Galea.
