
Two Cumbrian clubs continue their seasons by playing on Saturday in regional Papa John’s Cup semi-finals.
Penrith travel to Leek, who finished two places and nine points behind the Cumbrians in Regional 1 North West.
Back in February in a high-scoring contest – “You score and we’ll score” – Penrith just edged it 43-41 at Leek.
But early in the season, when Penrith were short of several key players Leek won 27-21 at Winters Park.
Keswick face West Hartlepool in a Papa John Cup semi-final at Davidson Park – two weeks after the sides met in a crucial League clash.
It ended in a 21-12 victory for Keswick and this knock-out clash is expected to be just as hard-fought.
Ricky Hands of the Northumberland Society will referee the game with Simon O’Neill (Northumberland) and Archie Harding (Cumbria) running the line. Another Cumbria Society member Alan Jenkinson is the fourth official.
The other semi-final is between Olney and Winnington Park, and the final will be played on Sunday, May 12 at Darlington Mowden Park.
The Cotton Traders Premier Cup Finals are being staged at Kendal on Saturday with the first game kicking off at 11am.
Cumbria Referees Society will be sending a team of five – Martin Maughan, Martin Denvir. Dan Shovelton. Alistair Jones and Alasdair Boyle, working with the Match Liaison Officer Craig Hine.
The games scheduled are: 11am Ruskin Park v Port Sunlight; 12.45 Blackburn 3 v Rossendale 3; 2 30 Manchester 2 v Preston Grasshoppers 2; 4 15 Chester 2 v Caldy 2.
