Erik Riss will guest for Redcar Bears on Saturday when they visit Workington in the second leg of the KO Cup.
The Bears are defending a 13-point lead from the first home leg, and Workington will have Dan Thompson guesting for the injured Antti Vuolas.
Redcar manager Gavin Parr is hopeful of a return to action for number one Danny King by early next month.
Parr has been busy booking guests for the Bears’ heat-leader, who is out with a hand injury, with former favourite Erik Riss set to step in for both of their matches this weekend.
Said Parr: “Danny went to speak to the hand specialist on Tuesday and he will be having surgery either later this week or early next week.
“He is going to have a plate put in which will hopefully ‘fix’ the issue. We are hoping Danny will be back at the start of June so he will hopefully only miss a month of action.
“We have been in long discussions with Erik to try and bring him in on a 28-day injury replacement, but he unfortunately has too many other commitments that will clash, so I am planning as far ahead as possible with guests for the next few weeks.”
Comets Finnish rider Vuolas has been stood down for nine days on a cponcussion protocol and misses both of the Workington fixtures this week-end.
He also missed out on the Speedway Euro Championship Challenge qualifier at Mureck in Austria this week.
The meeting won by former Poole and Eastbourne star Timo Lahti. Great Britain’s Tom Brennan finished level on points with Bartlomiej Kowalski in fourth place, meaning a run-off was required for the final qualifying position.
But he was edged out by the Polish youngster who finished third in the SGP2 series last year.
Meanwhile Workington number one Craig Cook is preparing for his Oxford Spires debut tonight at Sheffield.
Cook has joined the Spires as a 28-day injury replacement for Lewis Kerr so will have three meetings in as many days as he is back with the Comets on Friday night at Glasgow and then back to Workington on Saturday to face the Redcar Bears.
