A Kendal newsagent wants to extend its opening hours to help protect its business.
Kirkland News, on Kirkland, currently opens until 9pm every day, but has applied to vary its premises licence so it can open and sell alcohol from 6am to 11pm.
The newsagent said: “We have renovated Kirkland News and maximised the availability which includes groceries, chill, household and alcohol.
“Currently we are licenced to sell alcohol 6am to 9pm Monday to Friday, 7am to 9pm Saturdays and 7am to 2pm Sundays.
“We are open until 9pm every day and it is affecting our normal trading especially on Sundays. We have to close early or put notice on the chillers that we will not be selling alcohol.
“What we are looking to do is get the licence until 11pm to protect the business and afford the bills.”
The council has received one objection from a resident.
Members of the sub-committee will consider the application when they meet on May 28 at Kendal Town Hall.
