West Cumbrian Dan Bewley and fellow Great Britain star Robert Lambert both compete in World Championship qualifiers today.

Both are regulars in the Grand Prix series but are looking to confirm their places in 2025 via the qualification process, which ends in Pardubice with the GP Challenge on October 4.

Bewley competes at Italian venue Lonigo where the line-up also includes his Aces team-mate Jaimon Lidsey as well as Sheffield No.1 Jack Holder.

Meanwhile Lambert is in Zarnovica, Slovakia, a meeting which features two more Belle Vue riders, Brady Kurtz and Norick Blodorn, as well as Leicester’s Luke Becker and Antti Vuolas of Workington.

The Comets have booked their former number one Connor Bailey to guest for the absent Vuolas in this afternoon’s Championship meet8ing against Oxford.

The Comets have the chance to take over at the top of the Cab Direct Championship when they take on the Cheetahs at Northside.

The Comets raced to a huge win over Edinburgh last week and have three wins out of five in the league in total after a highly encouraging step back up to senior level.

Bailey is a shrewd choice of guest for Vuolas whilst the Cheetahs continue to operate rider replacement for the injured Henry Atkins.

Comets boss James Denham said: “It’s all about momentum and confidence for us now. A huge win against Edinburgh last week showed that, especially at home, we are a very strong side from one to seven.

“Saturday with be a tough and fiery encounter for sure. Oxford have been in good form of late with a good win over Redcar and they have a really strong heat leader partnership with (Scott) Nicholls and (Sam) Masters.”

Meanwhile a former Comet, Richard Lawson raced to a 15-point maximum for holders Poole last might as the Pirates enjoyed another big home win, this time by 58-32 over Plymouth in the BSN Series.

Poole boss Neil Middleditch said: “That was a clinical performance for sure.

“To be honest, I asked the lads for a 10 to 15-point lead, so with a 26-point advantage they more than delivered and gives us a bit of a cushion when we go there.”
