Dion Aiye has been suspended from Whitehaven with immediate effect following an incident over the weekend.
This evening, the rugby club’s board of directors issued a statement confirming that he had been given the suspension, pending further investigation.
They added they would not be making any further comment.
It is believed the incident happened in Whitehaven town centre.
On March 19, Aiye, was given an eight-match suspension, fined and removed as captain following a tribunal. He was due to return to the pitch on June 2.
Aiye, of Richmond Terrace, Whitehaven, admitted assault and harassment charges at Preston Crown Court and was given an 18-month community order. The charges relate to an incident involving a woman in Barrow on February 28 2021.
