There’s plenty of Workington interest in the Attis Insurance Sports Division British Final which takes place at Belle Vue on Saturday June 8.

Current skipper Craig Cook, a former winner of the event, will be joined by four other former Comets riders in the 16 who made this week’s draw.

Charles Wright won in 2019 while Dan Bewley is the reigning champion, and they are joined by the former Workington pair of Richard Lawson and Kyle Howarth.

Three former champions are set to clash in Heat 1 to give the national championship an explosive start.

Treble winner Chris Harris, 2016 champion Danny King and Grand Prix star Robert Lambert are all in the opening race, joined by Ben Barker who finished in third place last year.

Defending champion Bewley, from Maryport, has been drawn at No.11 whilst Tai Woffinden’s first appearance since 2015 sees him line up at No.8, which means an immediate clash with 2021 winner Adam Ellis and another former champion, the Comets skipper Cook has his first ride.

Wright meets 2020 champion Rory Schlein in Heat 4, with that race also including in-form Tom Brennan who was runner-up two years ago and the other ex=Comet in Howarth.

DRAW: 1 Ben Barker, 2 Robert Lambert, 3 Chris Harris, 4 Danny King, 5 Craig Cook, 6 Connor Mountain, 7 Adam Ellis, 8 Tai Woffinden, 9 Lewis Kerr, 10 Steve Worrall, 11 Dan Bewley, 12 Richard Lawson, 13 Rory Schlein, 14 Tom Brennan, 15 Charles Wright, 16 Kyle Howarth.
