Workington Comets might be on their quiet spell, without any fixtures, but captain Craig Cook is being kept busy.
He rode on Thursday for Leicester, on his return to the Lions, and last night was booked as a guest for Edinburgh in a BSN Series qualifier while tonight he will be in action for Berwick Bandits as a guest.
Last night Edinburgh became the third team to book their place in the BSN Series semi-finals thanks to a 50-39 win over rivals Glasgow.
The Monarchs took victory in the decisive fixture at Armadale to confirm their position as group winners, and they join Workington and Scunthorpe as definite qualifiers for the last four.
Skipper Paco Castagna roared back to top form with 14 points for the home side with guest Cook also in double figures on 10. Leon Flint scored 9+2 for the Tigers.
For tonight Berwick have booked Cook and Connor Coles to step in for their two injured riders when they face Scunthorpe at Shielfield Park.
The Bandits’ defeat at Poole on Wednesday saw them lose Lewis Kerr and Bastian Borke, so Cook comes in at No. 1 with Coles, who rode for the club last season, stepping in at reserve in the Cab Direct Championship clash.
It means that Cook will be lining-up alongside Drew Kemp as team-mates – and he’s the rider he replaced at Leicester.
And Berwick boss Stewart Dickson has warned his side not to expect a repeat of the last time the sides met at the Border venue, when the Bandits took a 54-36 win in the Cab Direct KO Cup.
He said: “The Scorpions have got their act together since that night as we are only too painfully aware following the second leg hammering.”
“Ever since I was appointed Berwick team manager I have said that we must win our home meetings in addition to being competitive on the road and picking up aggregate points.
In opposition tonight will be three former Comets in Kyle Howarth, Simon Lambert and Luke Harrison.
Cook’s current Workington team-mate Tate Zischke guested for Redcar Bears last night at Scunthorpe where they lost by 50-39.
The young Australian, riding at number five, won his first race but then it went downhill as he was third, last and then suffered a fall and exclusion in his fourth and last outing for four points.
Former Comet Charles Wright led the scoring for the Bears with twn points, which included two race wins, while last season’s number one at Workington, Connor Bailey scored eight. That also included two heat wins.
