A man injured in an explosion in a West Cumbrian brewery is making progress – but still has a long road to recovery, said his colleagues.
The man, identified as Leigh, was hurt in the incident at Tractor Shed Brewing on Monday, May 13.
A statement from the firm, based at Seaton, said: “Thank you for your continued support and for the love shown to our employee Leigh.
“He is still in hospital and has a long road to recovery ahead of him. The hospital are reducing his sedation and he has been nodding to questions posed by the medical team. His Mum played a video of his beloved Taco and he could hear her barking which is fab.
“As for the brewery, we’re taking each day as it comes and actually managed to brew again today for the first time.
“Once again, thank you for your support, we really do appreciate it.”
Leigh suffered serious burns and it is understood he was airlifted to the RVI in Newcastle for treatment.
Police have launched an investigation and the Health and Safety Executive is involved.
Emergency services were contacted at around 2.50pm on May 13 to Calva Brow. Police said they were contacted by North West Ambulance Service which had received a report of an explosion at the brewing facility.
Ambulance crews, police and the fire service were all in attendance. Two air ambulances also attended.
