Lawrence Wilson

A prolific shoplifter who was previously barred from entering several shops in West Cumbria has been banned from stores for an extra two years.

Lawrence Wilson, 36, of no fixed address, had a criminal behaviour order extended after been sentenced for shoplifting.

The original order was issued in 2021.

Wilson is banned from entering any of the shops on the Whitehaven and Workington Shopwatch or any shops displaying the Whitehaven and Workington Shopwatch logo.

He is also banned from entering:

  • Spar on Main Road, Hensingham
  • Heron Foods in Maryport
  • B and M in Maryport
  • Tesco Express in Maryport
  • Home Bargains on the Derwent Howe Industrial Estate in Workington

Community beat officer for Maryport PC Sam Steele said: “The extension of Wilson’s criminal behaviour order was a great outcome and will continue to be a useful tool to place restrictions on to prevent further criminality and help protect business owners and local residents.

“I would encourage anyone who witnesses the terms of such a court order being broken to contact the police immediately.

“The punishment for breaking the terms of an order can be up to five years in prison.”

Anyone who witnesses Wilson breaching the terms of the order should contact the police.
