North West Counties side Bury FC have made two former Workington players their first signings of the close season.

Iyrwah Gooden and Ruben Jerome have signed for the Gigg Lane side after they helped Emley to promotion to a League higher the NPL East.

Bury FC were beaten in the play-offs from the NW Counties Premier Division so missed out on moving up into NPL West.

Emley were champions of the Northern Counties East League and between them Jerome and Gooden scored over 60 goals. As a team Emley scored 102 goals and finished nine points clear at the top.

Jerome was the top scorer in the NCEL Premier Division last season with 39 goals and the 29-year-old spent three seasons at Borough Park, while Gooden‘s stay was limited to just one season.

Jerome was a member of the Workington side which won promotion from the NPL West Division 12 months ago.

His career started at Southport before spells at Ramsbottom, Workington, Warrington Town and Emley and this will be the first time he has played in the North West Counties League.

His elder brother Cameron, 37, has just left his 10th professional club, Bolton Wanderers after clocking up 600 games for the likes of Birmingham (181), Norwich (130) and Cardiff (73).

Gooden started out at Mansfield before joining Ramsbottom in 2019. The 23-year-old heads to Gigg Lane following spells at Warrington Town, Chester, Clitheroe, Workington and Worksop.

He and Jerome will have been team-mates at Ramsbottom, Workington, Emley and now Bury.
