Injury-hit Whitehaven have added winger Gideon Boafo to their squad from Betfred Super League side London Broncos for an initial two-week period.

Boafo, 25, has played two games in Super League this season after rejoining the capital side following a two-season spell with Newcastle Thunder.

He scored 22 tries in 44 games for Thunder and in his first spell with the Broncos he went in for 16 tries in 13 games.

A proven finisher Boafo will be a welcome addition to Jonty Gorley’s squad, struggling for injuries after naming only 16 players against Bradford Bulls last week.

They also lost Jake Maizen during that game because of a hamstring injury and have expressed their thanks to London for their co-operation in allowing Gideon to join the Cumbrians on a short-term basis.

Boafo will be available for Sunday’s home clash with bottom club Dewsbury which is one Gorley will have targeted as a number of clubs are locked together above the Rams.
