Carlisle United have announced the death of their former long-serving club chairman Andrew Jenkins.

It was a position he held from the 1990’s until last November qwhen the Piatek family took over the club.

He was then given the honorary title of Chairman Emeritus in recognition of his almost-lifelong service to the club.

His death ends a 64-year association with the club as he first joined the board in 1959 at the age of 23.

Announcing his death on the club website a statement said: “There simply aren’t enough words to explain the impact Andrew had on this football club over his 64-year association.

“As a mark of respect to Andrew and his family our media channels will now be silent until Friday. Our thoughts are with Andrew’s loved ones at this extremely sad time.”
