
A man competing in a Cumbrian rally has died after he was taken ill.
Emergency services, including the Great North Air Ambulance, were called to the incident at Greystoke Stages Rally, near Penrith, on Sunday, July 7.
The man was pronounced dead at the scene.
The rally said: “It is with immense sadness that we inform you all of the passing of a rally competitor on Sunday’s Greystoke Stages.
“The competitor was taken unwell whilst on a road section in between stages and was pronounced dead at the scene.
“Greystoke Stages officials acted immidiately to assist the emergency services, who we remain in contact with.
“The thoughts and condolences of Motorsport UK, West Cumbria Motorsport Club and Eden Valley Motor Club go to the competitors family, friends and loved ones.”
It is understood that flowers paying tribute to the man have been placed at Thanet Well crossroads.
The Great North Air Ambulance said it had been called out at around 12.35pm to the medical incident, but while on their way, the crew was stood down.
