Carlisle Cycling Association had one of their biggest attendances of the year for the last event of their current series and despite some ominous dark clouds the weather stayed dry, producing some good racing.
It was a great night for the Scots in the Youth racing with Zoe Martin, Theo Begg, Izzy Barbour, Colin Johnstone and the four Stewart siblings, Skye, Mitch, Cobey and Josh all winning their races.
It was left to Oliver Nichol and Sophie Smith – Jackson to fly the flag for Cumbria, taking the top step of the podium in the Under 8 boys and Under 16 girls respectively.

It was a multi-national night, with Welsh visitor Joseph Beckingsale dominant in the first adult race, taking both overall victory and two out of the four intermediate sprint laps. Wolf Cycles’ Adam Bent and Olli Dawson completed the podium.
The final race of the night did see a local victory with Olli Dawson edging out Scot Sam Barbour in the last sprint, with Adam Bent in third.
The Association also presented the end of series prizes with many winners including Ian Wrightson of Border City Wheelers who won the 4th Category league and Ed Hindmarsh of Wolf Cycles who topped the 3rd Cat table.
Consistency paid off for Adam Bent whose multiple podium appearances this season saw him finish first in the Category 2 and above league.
Special Awards were made to Harry Little for Improvement and Ryan Johnston, Most Promising Newcomer. Rider of the Year Awards went to Leo Walsh and Jonathan Wilson in the Youth and Senior sections.
CCA couldn’t run without a band of willing volunteers and they were also thanked with Steve Davison named as Volunteer of the Year in recognition of his great work in timing the races.
Prizes donated by Fell Bar and Cyclewise, as well as from Association funds, were well received and this competitive, but friendly event, brought another successful series to a close.
