Former Huddersfield Town defender Ben Jackson has described his move to Barrow as a “really good opportunity” to get more game time under his belt.
The 23-year-old Town academy graduate has been talking to the club website Live after leaving the Terriers to join the Holker Street League Two side.
He spent nine years in all at Huddersfield and made 56 first-team appearances in total, 27 of which were made last season, but the defender is eager to feature more regularly in a side that finished eighth in their division last term.
He said: “I’m really excited. I think it’s a really good opportunity for me to join Barrow, play some games, show what I can do, and probably prove a lot of people wrong, and really start enjoying my football again.
“I think once I heard about the interest, I was quite intrigued myself. I think I saw it as a good opportunity to come and play football at a team where the ambition is to get promoted, and be in and around the play-offs.
“It’s not just to be a team sat in the middle of the table, I think that was really appealing to me from the initial conversations I had. That was something that definitely played on my mind, and towards the end of that week away in Austria with Huddersfield, I think I’d made my mind up that I wanted to take the opportunity.
“We’re not happy to just sit and be in the middle of the table. We want to play some good football, attacking football, be on the front foot, score goals, take the game to other teams, as opposed to sitting back and absorbing pressure.
“The main thing for me is to be fighting for wins every single game, as opposed to be holding out for draws and accepting defeats. I think that was really appealing for me in my thought process.”
Jackson’s appearances in pre-season for Town were limited this summer, with the defender playing 30 and 45 minutes against Emley and Guiseley respectively, but otherwise did not feature.
The wing-back was included in the Terriers’ 27-man squad for last week’s training camp, but didn’t get onto the pitch in any of their three friendlies.
Jackson was one of two Town players to join Barrow on Tuesday afternoon, with young defender Neo Eccleston also signing for the Bluebirds on a season-long loan.
