A Kendal yard has been given a facelift, thanks to a group of young artists in the town.
Secondary school children, working with Ragtag Arts, have used their artistic skills and imagination to create some colourful and creative works of art to liven up Yard 5 on Stricklandgate, opposite the Fleece Inn.
The young people have worked on the project since Easter, attending a Ragtag Arts after school club once a week.
Under the guidance of the Ragtag Arts team, the young people have developed a range of artistic techniques to create the large scale mural panels and introduce colour to the Auld Grey Town.
The project was instigated by the Kendal Futures Placemaking Action Group. They felt some of Kendal’s Yards, a unique feature of the town, would benefit from improvement to encourage more people to use them. Kendal Town Council and Kendal BID provided funding support for the project.

Kendal’s deputy mayor Richard Sutton cut a ribbon to officially unveil the yard in front of a group of supporters and funders, including Ragtag Arts. The children who worked on the art project also attended a private viewing at Ragtag Arts prior to the works being installed.
Cllr Sutton said: “It’s been fantastic to learn more about the development of this project which embraces the creativity and imagination of our town’s young people. Their achievements are now proudly displayed in Yard 5 and I encourage everyone to pop into the yard and take a closer look.”
