Significant results in West Cumbria Fours League

There were two significant results in the latest round of matches in the West Cumbria Fours League, sponsored by Whitehaven Trophies.

They were at both ends of the table, too, affecting the battle to avoid the wooden spoon and the fight for the League title.

Vulcan Park recorded their first 7-0 win this season when they beat Seaton at home and, as a result, moved off the bottom of the table above their opponents as well as Workington B and Whitehaven B.

In the title race Whitehaven A moved to within three points of leaders Workington A when they defeated Fitz Park at Keswick 5-2.  Before the game the two clubs were level on 64 points.

 Workington A had no game last Friday and now have a game in hand over Whitehaven A but the two clubs have yet to play each other at Workington.

Other results: Monday, 29 July: Workington B 2 Fitz Park 5. Friday 2 August:  Whitehaven B 0 Cleator Moor 7; Maryport 7 Workington B 0.

League standings (games played and points): Workington A 12-72, Whitehaven A 13-69, Fitz Park 13-66, Maryport 14-52, Cleator Moor 13-50, Vulcan Park 12-28, Seaton 13-27, Workington B 13-25, Whitehaven B 15-23.

In the West Cumbria Mixed Triples League the semi-finals of the Knock-Out Cup have been played and the results were: Croft 5, Wigton 4 and Workington 9, Harris Park A 0.

Two outstanding fixtures were completed recently as follows: Harris Park A 2, Whitehaven A 7, Workington 7, Harris Park A 2.

League standings (games played and points): Workington 9-63, Whitehaven A 9-60, Wigton 8-51, Croft 9-49, Harris Park A 12-45, Cleator Moor 9-40, Whitehaven B 8-39, Maryport 9-38, Seaton 8-36, Seascale 8-33, Harris Park B 9-26, Egremont 8-22, Vulcan Park 8-13.
