A Lake District walker had to be airlifted to hospital after they took a tumble near a waterfall.

The Great North Air Ambulance Service was called to the incident at Thirlmere on Saturday at around 7pm.

The charity said: “We had two doctors and paramedic on board our aircraft and they arrived on scene at 7.12pm.

“The Coastguard helicopter attended to winch the patient from their location, and our team worked alongside the North West Ambulance Service to assess and treat the patient, before airlifting them to hospital.”

It was one of four callouts the charity responded to in the North West over the weekend.

On Saturday, its critical care team based in the North East was activated at 7.16pm to reports of a fall in Kirklinton, Carlisle.

It said: “We had a doctor and paramedic on board our aircraft and they arrived on scene at 7.45pm.  Our team worked alongside the North West Ambulance Service to assess and treat a patient, and the patient was taken to hospital by the road crew.”

On Sunday at around 9am, the air ambulance was called to the A684 near Sedbergh, following a collision involving a car and a motorbike.

The motorcyclist, who was seriously injured, was airlifted to hospital.

On Sunday, the critical care team was activated at 3.04pm to reports of a medical incident in Carnforth.

It said: “Our team worked alongside the North West Ambulance Service to assess and treat a patient, and then accompanied them to hospital by road.”
