A Cumbrian veterinary group has raised over £5,000 for the Motor Neurone Disease Association.
Paragon Veterinary Group organised a summer social in aid of the charity at Barrockend Farm in Armathwaite and welcomed over 250 people who came together for a night of fun and dancing to raise money and awareness to help to fight the disease and support those living with MND in Cumbria.
It was inspired by a local farming family who have been hit by MND after a member of the family was diagnosed with the disease earlier this year.
The farming community have rallied together since the diagnosis and have already done a number of fundraisers to support the cause, including a number of young farmers doing a Land’s End to John O’Groats physical challenge in June.
The night included food, drinks and live music. It also included an auction of promises in which many of the staff offered to do tasks in the community including milking cows, cleaning tractors and even covering a silage pit.
The night raised £10,055 for the MND Association and the Farming Community Network.
All of the money raised for the MND Association will be used in the local community around north Cumbria to support those living with Motor Neurone Disease and their families, providing vital support and care locally.
Organiser Karen McNeil said: “We were humbled by the level of support leading up to the event and on the night. There was a fantastic atmosphere and it was great to see our clients away from their farms. Some even commented if we will have another event next year..watch this space!”
Speaking about the night Regional Fundraiser for the MND Association, Dominic McDonough, said: “I would like to say a big thank you to everyone who has helped to organise this mammoth event. It was an absolutely huge success and to see so many people coming together to raise money and awareness for those living with MND is really heartwarming. Thank you for your kindness, it really does mean so much and will make a massive difference.”
