Workington Reds have made a late addition to their squad for the opening NPL Premier Division game tomorrow at Guiseley.
They have signed, on loan, a central midfield player and the club will be announcing details when clearance has been confirmed.
Earlier in the week at an open training session for the fans Fell said that he had nine of the starting 11 picked in his own mind.
But one of the two needed to complete the side – Michael Ndiweni, who trained with the squad on Tuesday – has subsequently turned down the hance to link-up with the Workington squad.
The amount of travelling from his native North East was given as the reason for the 20-year-old former Newcastle United forward declining Reds offer.
The second additional player to make up Fell’s starting eleven has now been acquired with the club ready to release details later today.
Reds will have several new recruits in the squad for the Guiseley game, which is a particularly tough opener against a side who are said to have recruited well.
Tom Wilkinson, Ben Fell, Ben Williams, Tom Stephenson, Josh Galloway and Jamie Allen are all in line to make their NPL debuts for the club. Alex Mitchell, Kai Nugent and Steven Swinglehurst are new this season but have played for the Reds before.
In the Northern League all three Cumbrian clubs are in action with Carlisle City, in particular, looking for a result.
Since new manager Dan Kirkup went away on a family holiday, which was booked before he landed the job, City have lost all three games – twice in the League and also in the FA Cup.
Particularly jarring was the 6-1 home defeat on Tuesday to Marske and Kirkup, initially, will be looking for a positive response to that hugely disappointing result at Northallerton.
Darren Edmondson witnessed his first defeat of the season for Penrith when they conceded goals in the 87th and 95th minutes to lose 3-2 at North Shields.
In many ways Penrith have the perfect game to return to tomorrow as they host the bottom side Tow Law who have lost all three games so far.
Edmondson’s first consideration will be to emphasise to his team that any complacency in their approach will find them out. Treat Tow Law as League leaders rather than the season’s early trailers might well be part of his message.
Kendal Town, buoyed by their mid-week FA Cup replay win at Guisborough, have an interesting test as they travel to Blyth Town.
Newly promoted from Division Two they have opened with three straight victories in which they have scored 11 goals and conceded just three. Having also played, and lost at Redcar Athletic who share top spot with Blyth and Boro Rangers, Jimmy Marshall’s men are soon getting a flavour of what the Northern League’s better sides can offer.
In the Wearside League, Windscale have made a super start and sit proudly at the top of the table following four wins in four games.
It might be tougher tomorrow at home to third-placed South Moor but if they can win this one they follow-up on Wednesday with another home game against Bishop Auckland reserves who have lost all three games so far.
In the West Lancashire League’s Premier Division Whitehaven opened their account in mid-week with a 2-0 home win against Milnthorpe Corinthians.
Jon-Karl Benson’s men will hope to follow-up tomorrow when they are again at the County Ground, this time against new boys Haslingden St. Mary’s, beaten in both their games so far.
Neighbours Cleator Moor Celtic didn’t play in mid-week but will clearly be keen to make amends for last Saturday’s opening 5-0 defeat at Fulwood Amateurs.
New manager Gareth Agnew has to fire up his men for a visit from one of the league’s high flyers, last season’s runners-up CMB. The Bolton side have started with two wins and are keen to go one better than last season when they finished a point behind champions Thornton Cleveley’s.
