This weekend, people are invited to meet the Lake District’s search dogs and find out what they do.
Working alongside the Lake District’s mountain rescue teams, Lake District Mountain Rescue Search Dogs are a specialist team dedicated to the training, developing and deploying of dogs to search for missing people.
All search dog handlers are all operational members of mountain rescue teams within the Lake District – all must already be competent in first aid and survival in a mountainous environment.
The voluntary organisation relies on donations to operate.
On Sunday, August 11, people can meet the dogs and their handlers at Kirkstone Pass, opposite the inn, between 11am and 3pm.

A spokesman said: “Bring your family and friends to this beautiful mountain pass in the heart of the Lake District. We will be there to greet you and tell you all about how we train and work these wonderful search dogs.”
There will also be a demonstration of the dogs working across the high mountainside, the chance to meet the team’s dogsbodies – people who go out and hide for the dogs to help with their training and there will be merchandise and refreshments available all day.
