Wigton beat Langholm 36-12 at Lowmoor Road to conclude their pre-season work ahead of the new Counties 1 Cumbria season which starts on Saturday.
Straight from the kick-off, Wigton attacked with several phases and Langholm were penalised at the ruck close to their try line, resulting in referee Alastair Jones showing a yellow card to the Langholm second row.
The Greens were off-loading well in the tackle but a loose pass looked to have ended the pressure when Langholm kicked it clear.
However, a great outside break by Matty Harrison in beating several defenders put Wigton within sight of the try line and hard-working Ryan Armstrong powered over for the first score.
Langholm responded well and worked a good try off a line-out move with their left winger going over in the corner to level at 5-5.
Langholm were dominating possession but solid Wigton defence forced a turn-over and they transitioned from defence to attack in a flash to put speedster Euan Fletcher in the clear. He raced away to score under the posts and Elliot Armstrong converted.
Wigton were to score again through Jonny Dodd after good work from the lively duo of Fergus Ledingham and Harrison.
The home side then dropped the kick-off and had to withstand a period of Langholm pressure in the 22, but once again great defence led to a loose pass and Fletcher reacted quickest to race away.
He was tackled 15 metres from the line but a great pass from the floor found flanker Dave Miller in support to go over in the corner.

Again Wigton didn’t deal with the restart and following good phase play Langholm scored a converted try in the corner to leave it 22-12 at half-time.
Following a raft of changes the second period continued in the same vein as Langholm’s big runners were knocked down by the Wigton defence and they forced turnovers.
From one of them quick hands found Jordan Moore in space, and he beat two defenders on his way to a 45-metre score in the corner. Armstrong converted.

The last try was scored by Tom Maughan, who was returning from nearly a year out with injury.
Following good build-up play he ran hard and powered his way between the sticks for a popular score which Armstrong converted.
In the fading light tempers became frayed and the referee brought an end to the game slightly early following a fracas.
This weekend the Greens will be sending a development team on Friday night to play Penrith and on Saturday they will host Hawcoat Park at Lowmoor Road in a 3pm kick off to start the Cumbria 1 League campaign.
