Appeal date set for Carlisle nightclub’s licence hearing

Truth in Carlisle

An appeal against the removing of a Carlisle nightclub’s licence will be heard at the city’s magistrates court next month.

Earlier this year, members of Cumberland Council’s licensing sub-committee revoked the licence of Truth nightclub, in English Gate Plaza off Botchergate, after police raised concerns but bosses at the club appealed against the decision.

Cumbria police objected to the licence transfer from former company Truth Enterprises to the new company B&2.

In February councillors upheld a police objection to the transfer of a Carlisle nightclub licence because officers felt it was a rebranding exercise.

On January 17 this year the premises licence for Truth nightclub was revoked by the licencing sub-committee following police concerns over underage drinking and public safety.

Councillors heard that a 16-year-old girl was found in the area tottering around in an intoxicated condition who had confirmed to officers that she had been drinking at Truth that evening.

The hearing is scheduled for noon on Thursday, October 31.
