Carlisle can wrap up their third successive Cumbria League Premier Division title if they win at Workington on Saturday.
They opened-up a 15-point lead last week by beating Whitehaven while nearest rivals Cockermouth were losing at Furness.
Workington are having their poorest season for a while, sitting third bottom after a frustrating campaign when they won their first two games before sinking rapidly down the table.
On it’s day the Workington attack is as good as most in the league but they have been desperately short of runs this season.
Carlisle have professional Michael Slack back keen to finish an injury-wrecked season, with a flourish as he can land a weekend double if Carlisle are successful and Cumbria win the NCCA T20 finals on Sunday.
The city side, of course, are leaving the Cumbria League to play in the Northern League next season and a third successive title would boost their credentials to their new opponents.
Seven miles away, on Saturday, Cockermouth will just be trying to beat Millom in the hope that Workington can do them a favour and keep the title open until the last game of the season.
Millom have come on nicely this season after a slow start with professional Nathan Waterston starting to flourish with the bat. They also have a number of promising young players who are consistently showing their potential so this will be no walk in the park for Cockermouth.
At the bottom of the table all eyes will be on the games involving Egremont and Haverigg as they go into the last two games separated at the bottom by just two points.
Haverigg would appear to have the tougher game on Saturday at home to third-in-the-table Keswick while Egremont have a local derby at home to Cleator.
It’s also possibly the same on the final day of the season as Haverigg make the short trip to Millom while Egremont travel to Workington.
The other games on Saturday are – Whitehaven v Dalton; Wigton v Furness.
