Ramon ‘Razor’ Silva has agreed a new two-year deal to stay with Barrow Raiders until at least the end of the 2026 season.
The popular forward becomes the third player in recent weeks to commit his long-term future to the Raiders, after hooker Josh Wood and outside back Matt Costello both signed extended deals.
The 22-year-old has flourished this season after signing from Betfred Super League side Wigan Warriors in November.
Silva has played 22 times in all competitions to date, with 21 of those coming from the start.
Prior to this season, the prop hadn’t started a competitive game in his career and was instead used by his previous clubs as an impact forward off the bench.
Whilst at Wigan, Silva was loaned out several times to Championship sides, but he feels he has now found a home in Barrow.
“I’m thrilled to be staying with the Raiders,” the Sao Paulo-born forward said.
“It’s a club I’ve come to really value. Under Paul Crarey’s guidance I’ve developed so much as a player, and I know there’s more to come.
“One of the biggest reasons I’ve decided to stay was because of Cresta. He’s been instrumental in developing my rugby ability.
“The culture at the club, the support from the coaching staff and the bond with my team-mates also played a huge role. It was an easy decision for me to commit to the Raiders.
“I’m focused on continuing to develop my own game under Cresta’s guidance and being a leader, both on and off the pitch. If we keep working hard and stick together, there’s no telling what we can achieve in the future.”
Barrow Raiders head coach Paul Crarey said: “Ramon has been tremendous for us all year. His strength in contact through his hips is phenomenal, and enables the team to get on the front foot.
“He also has a great attitude to training and a thirst to improve his own game and be the best he can be.
“He had many offers to go elsewhere but has chosen to stay here, where we will continue to help him improve. I’m sure the fans will be glad to see him stay, as he has become a firm favourite with them.”
Director of rugby Andy Gaffney said: “Ramon has come on leaps and bounds since arriving at the club, so we’re thrilled that he has committed to another two years.
“There’s still plenty of room for improvement with him, and we’re glad to be able to give him the opportunity to develop his game. We’re confident that he can take his next steps with us.”
