Cumbria and Cockermouth scorer Geoff Minshaw has been invited to score at Lord’s at the end of the month for an England v Australia international.
Geoff, 60, has been honoured for his long association with the art of scoring by taking up duties on Friday September 27 when England play Australia in the fourth One Day International of their series at the home of cricket.
The county scorer for over 20 years, Geoff is also Cumbria CCC’s vice chair and an honorary life member and has been Cockermouth’s scorer for 25 years.
He debuted as the club’s scorer in 2003 and has since been the County’s regular scorer in well over 200 matches for the County side and the Development XI having probably missed no more than a handful of games in the last twenty years.
Geoff told Cumbria Crack: “I have known for a while that this was going to happen and obviously I felt really honoured to have been chosen to score at Lord’s.
“But to be honest I thought it would be a varsity match or an MCC game, so I was thrilled to hear that it was going to be an England game against Australia.
“I know it’s in recognition of the number of years I have scored for the county but for me it is too recognition for the clubs that I have done the job for.
“I was 16 when the late Barry Parker saw me playing at Netherhall School and invited me down to Workington. I played a few games for the second team but I got into the scorebox on match days and it sort of went from there.
“I did some first team games after Archie Gibbon retired and then I scored at Whitehaven; did the county Under-17s before taking over the regular first team job with Cockermouth 25 yuears ago.
“The senior county team came next and it’s just over 20 years now that I have been doing that.
“Needless to say I am looking forward eagerly to the game on September 27 and fingers crossed for a fine day.”
