It was unlucky 13 with a bang for Windscale in the Wearside League last night.
They travelled over to Easington Plain to contest their 13th Wearside fixture of the season and the Atoms were hammered 8-0.
They had a nightmare first half conceding five goals, so the game was over as a contest and it was about damage limitation in the second-half – but leaking three more goals was only a marginal improvement.
Playing resources were depleted again having to field their only 11 fit players available and a reduced bench.
Easington who are hopeful of promotion to the Northern League showed no mercy scoring regularly in the 9th, 23rd, 36th, 39th and 42nd minutes.
Windscale stemmed the flow of goals in the second period only allowing Easington to register three further goals. These came in the 51st, 67th and 89th minutes of the half earning the hosts all three points from their eight-goal victory.
Not taking anything away from a very impressive Easington side, this was by no means a credible performance from the Atoms and probably one of the worst under Stephen Fawcett’s tenure, the recent heavy fixture schedule not helping the Egremont based sides cause.
This eight goal reversal sent the Atoms goal difference into negative mode and they will need to do some soul searching prior to Saturday’s home fixture against Norton and Stockton Ancients, kick off is at 2.30pm at the Falcon Complex.
