Barrow were beaten 5-0 at Stamford Bridge by a Chelsea side which was a mixture of internationals and raw, but promising, youngsters.
It was a brave show by the Bluebirds and although they didn’t advance in the Carabao Cup they provided their travelling fans with some great memories of their day out to Stamford Bridge.
Those fans knew very early on it was not going to be their night as Chelsea went 2-0 up inside 15 minutes.
Christopher Nkunku scored both, the first on eighth minutes, after clever play by Joao Felix saw him lift the ball over the defence for Nkunku to finish from close range.
Nkunku’s second was a clever flick to a cross from Malo Gusto which beat goalkeeper Paul Farman.
Chelsea got their third when a Felix free-kick hit the post but bounced in off the back of the diving Farman. It meant Barrow changed round 3-0 in arrears.
Two minutes after the restart a lightning move by Chelsea ended with a perfect pass across goal from Mykhailo Mudryk’s allowed Pedro Netoto finish and scotre his first Chelsea goal.
Farman won’t want to see the fifth and final goal replayed. He had the ball at his feet and was looking to play out when he was robbed by Nkunku who turned and fired into an empty net to complete his hat-trick on 75 minutes.
Barrow striker Emile Acquah had volleyed a half chance over at 1-0 and Kian Spence had two free-kicks easily saved by Chelsea goalkeeper Filip Jorgensen later in the game.
