Paul Starke’s good form round Wimborne Road has earned him another booking tonight as the 2024 season draws to a close.
Starke, who did a good job when brought in as reserve for Workington Comets at the end of July, has been booked as a guest by Scunthorpe Scorpions.
In Workington’s tough assignments at Poole in the BSN Series and Championship play-off semi-finals, Starke was the Comets most consistent performer.
But it will need a miracle for Scunthorpe to turn round the BSN Series Trophy final as they trail by 53-37 from the first leg.
The Pirates put on a powerful display in the away leg and they hope to be back to full strength with skipper Ben Cook having missed the trip to the Eddie Wright Raceway due to concussion.
The Scorpions make two changes with Leon Flint guesting for the injured Michael Palm Toft, whilst reserve Luke Harrison is competing in tomorrow’s European U19 Final in Germany and is replaced by Starke.
Harrison was a star performer for the Comets when they returned to speedway last year in the National Development League.
Poole promoter Dan Ford said: “We know that nothing is actually won yet, but the boys were formidable at Scunthorpe on Sunday and have put us in a very strong position of being the only club to win this competition.
“I can assure fans that the boys are determined to finish the job on Wednesday and will be going out to put on a similar showing to Sunday.
“To a man they have all been excellent and to hold a 16-point lead is fantastic, but I can tell you that might have been even greater as the team fought hard in what was a great first leg.
“We are rapidly running out of meetings for this incredible season and so I would urge fans to come along and get as much of their speedway fix before the winter closes in on us.”
