What’s happening in the West Cumberland Sunday League? Both last season’s top two have lost twice already and new challengers have emerged.

The champions Northside lost 5-4 to revitalised Deer Orchard while runners-up and Sunday County Cup winners Parkside crashed 7-2 to Lowca Pirates in the President’s Cup.

At Wakefield Road there were goals for Orchard from Luke Graham (3), Luke Ivison and Robbie Furness with Northside responding through Harry Watson, Logan Bosward, Tony Borthwick and Kyle Graham.

It’s a changed Parkside team this season and they were marooned by the Pirates who won with goals from Travis Fyfe (3), Callum Wilson (2), Owen Woodburn and Kian Goulding. Darren Little and Dean McGonagle were the Parkside scorers.

All that means in the Premier Division is that Dearham Commercial are the only unbeaten side. Currently lying second behind Northside they trail by two points but have two games in hand.

Deer Orchard are third, from the same number of games as Dearham, but they have a point less.

They continued their run with a 4-1 home win over Sun Inn as Danny Manchester (2), Lewis Manchester and Matthew Oglanby provided the goals. Dan Pearson replied for Sun.

In Division One Whitehaven Development went top with a 4-2 win at Sun Inn Athletic after they had trailed 1-0 at half-time.

Keenan Mackay inspired the second-half come-back with a hat-trick and Jenson Irving was also on target. Matty Hornsby and Brad Williamson were on the mark for Athletic.

In a tight clash Swan registered their second League win, a 2-1 success at Senhouse Street with goals from David Miller and Matthew Little. Declan Moore was on target for the Workington side.

King’s Arms won the other Division One game, beating Royal 4-2. Coady Scott, Dylan McAlone, Max Hellon and Bobby Fitzpatrick ensured the win with Ryan Smith and Connor Buck replying for the hosts.

Bluebell and Moresby Rangers both made progress in the President’s Cup with both winning sides hitting six.

Luke Knowles hit four for Bluebell as Greg Quayle and Grant Quayle also found the target in a 6-1 win over the Zebras who had been unbeaten in Division One up to that point.

Moresby beat Division One’s bottom side Borough Miners 6-0. Owen O’Neil, Jamie Martin, James Ennis, Ellis Trotter and Dane Richardson scored and they didn’t really need the help of an own goal by Jack Coyne.

Fixtures for Sunday

  • Premier Division – Moresby Rangers v Parkside; Northside v Dearham Commercial.
  • Division One – King’s Arms v Sun Inn Athletic; Royal Oak v Borough Miners; Whitehaven Development v Swan.
  • County Sunday Cup – Lowca Pirates v Thornhill; Senhouse Street v Sun Inn; Zebras v Blue Bell.
