Penrith picked up an excellent 1-0 win at Whitley Bay in the Northern League.
Manager Darren Edmondson has not had a single goal victory with a clean sheet since taking over at Penrith he reckons, so was well pleased.
Whitley Bay were strong and physical and Penrith really had to dig in at the back with some outstanding, brave defending. The defensive blocks frustrated the home side when they thought a goal was on.
The Bay’s best chance came on 49 minutes when they were awarded a penalty but Callum Larmouth’s spot-kick was saved by Aaran Taylor.
The woodwork also came to Penrith’s aid on a couple of occasions but their general defensive effort deserved the clean sheet.
They won it with a goal on 62 minutes, a well-taken effort from substitute Connor Shields after Penrith put together a really good move on the counter.
The Bonnyblues have a week’s break now before resuming in Northern League action on Saturday at home to Shildon.
It’s a good test for Edmondson’s men with Shildon 7th, four points better off than Penrith who are 11th. But the Bonnyblues have a game in hand.
