Workington Town rugby league club is mourning the death of their women’s team manager Sue Grimley.

Sue had been battling cancer and was a hugely popular figure around the Fibrus Community Stadium.

Her death comes just a few short weeks since the women’s team completed a fine double on their way to promotion for next season.

Club chairman Graeme Peers said: “It was with profound sadness that we learnt of the passing of our Workington Town Women RLFC team manager Sue.

“Sue’s legacy will live on through the women’s team she impacted so much, as well as the overall club with her endless support and we will miss her dearly.

“We have been incredibly blessed to class Sue as a colleague and more importantly we will miss a beautiful friend.

“She was an integral part of our club and what has been achieved for women’s sport this year, doing the hidden work, the hard and less glamorous parts of the role.

“However, when the day was done and the game was over she knew how to let her hair down and enjoy the moment.

“She was fantastic company and great craic.

“We will miss her so much.

“Our thoughts and love go out to all her family and friends.”
