Vets A captain Kevin Basnett opened the match with a commanding performance, confidently dismantling Phil Sorfleet 62-29 to put his side 1-0 up.
In the second frame, Workington Golf Club’s Mark Brasted responded emphatically, showcasing his skills to overcome Paul Mostyn 69-43, levelling the match at 1-1.
Simon Fraser kept the momentum going for Workington Golf Club in the third frame, playing with great composure and accuracy to secure a dominant 54-11 win and push his team 2-1 ahead.
However, Vets A’s Mark Tunstall showed great resilience in the fourth frame, displaying a composed and focused approach to methodically defeat Brian Walker 56-34, setting up a final-frame decider.
In the decisive final frame, Mark Cowan of Workington Golf Club looked strong, crafting an early, impressive break of 31.
Despite Cowan’s efforts, Vets A’s Mark Tatton remained calm under pressure, producing a gritty and determined performance to win the frame 63-56, sealing an unforgettable 3-2 victory for the Vets A outfit.
This victory maintained Veterans Club A 4th place in Division One with 6 points, while Workington Golf Club A dropped to second with 12 points.
In a dramatic all-Division Two encounter, United Club B managed to secure a tight 3-2 home victory over Whitehaven’s Rack Shack. Both teams displayed resilience, with each frame offering a showcase of skill and competitive spirit.
Richard Kirkham of United Club B kicked-off with a steady, tactical game, grinding out a 44-33 victory over Peter McAvoy to give his side what turned out to be a crucial early lead.
Rack Shack’s Chris McKelvy was undeterred, however, producing a solid performance in the second frame. McKelvy’s fluent potting and control earned him a spectacular 83-39 win over Shane Tallentire, levelling the match at 1-1.
Rack Shack’s Neil Docherty took control early in the third frame, showcasing a masterclass in precision and shot selection to defeat Andrew Carter 57-19, putting Rack Shack ahead 2-1.
However, United Club B found their rhythm in the fourth frame with Adam Sowden showing confidence and composure, calmly defeating Adam Morilla 50-31 to force a decider.
In the final and deciding frame, Stephen Harrison of United Club B delivered under pressure, displaying poise and consistency to clinch a hard-fought 58-49 victory over Phil Denvir for a rewarding 3-2 victory.
With this win, United Club B maintained second place in Division Two with ten points, while Rack Shack remained in third place with seven points.
Maryport Social travelled to Workington to face Veterans Club B and emerged victorious, edging out their opponents 3-2 in a gripping all-Division Two showdown.
Veterans Club B’s Wayne Sinclair showcased solid potting and defensive play in the first frame, outmanoeuvring Ben Scott 48-38 to put his team in front.
Andrew Sharp of Maryport Social answered back with finesse in the second frame, delivering a controlled and skilful performance to defeat Lewis Straughton 50-27, levelling the match at 1-1.
In the third frame, Adam Hodgson of Veterans Club B produced a resilient display, winning a thrilling black-ball finish against Gary Miller to secure a 48-46 victory, pushing his team ahead 2-1.
However, Greg Todd from Maryport Social rose to the occasion in the fourth frame. Todd demonstrated excellent shot-making and unwavering focus, narrowly overcoming Jordan Ferguson 70-62 to bring the match to a deciding frame.
In the final showdown, Andrew Scott was at the top of his game. With a powerful and precise performance, Scott comfortably defeated Luke Richardson 78-30, showcasing his exceptional potting skills and securing the victory for Maryport Social in style.
This win moved Maryport Social up to fourth place in Division Two with six points, while Veterans Club B remained at the bottom in fifth place with five points.
In the final match of the round, United Club A travelled to face Workington Conservative Club and triumphed with a closely contested 3-2 victory, displaying resilience and strategic prowess in an intense encounter.
United Club A’s David Chapman opened with a nerve-wracking first frame, showcasing remarkable composure to edge out Alan Moore on the black, winning 53-49, giving his team an early lead.
Workington Cons’ veteran cueist, Julian Plaza, brought the match level in the second frame. Plaza’s strategic shot selection and consistency saw him overcome Clive Lister 41-31.
The third frame saw Workington Cons’ Dave Holland produce a stand-out performance. Holland’s precise potting and impeccable control left no room for error, as he convincingly defeated the in-form Peter O’Hagan 53-9, putting Workington Cons ahead 2-1.
