A man has been acquitted of a manslaughter charge brought after the death of a 39-year-old in West Cumbria.
Lewis Knight, 31, went on trial at Carlisle Crown Court this week.
Mr Knight denied manslaughter and the alleged unlawful killing of Marc Wright, of Whitehaven.
Mr Wright, 39, died in 2021. He had been taken to hospital by ambulance late on March 28 that year after collapsing at his mother’s home.
His death came several days after he reported to his mother that he had sore ribs and claimed to have been punched by a man he named as Lewis.
A jury of six men and six women heard all evidence in the case earlier this week. And this afternoon, after deliberating for almost six hours, the jury returned a verdict of not guilty.
As a result Mr Knight, of St Bees, was told by the trial judge he was free to leave the court dock.
