Carlisle held promotion candidates Doncaster Rovers to a 0-0 draw at Brunton Park – but went bottom of League Two.
Morecambe’s 3-2 win at fellow strugglers Swindon Town put them above the Cumbrians but all three of them are separated by goal difference.
The first-half was devoid of goalmouth action apart from a chancer for Carlisle’s Dominic Sadi which he fired over the bar and a smart save by Doncaster keeper Ted Sharman-Lowe, redeeming himself after giving Dan Adu-Adjei an opportunity.
Doncaster’s Luke Molyneux had Doncaster’s only genuine effort at goal but it was blocked by a Carlisle defender.
The visitors offered more threat in the second-half and at last started to look like promotion candidates.
Jack Senior had a shot deflected behind for a corner and a well-struck effort from Kyle Hurst was turned over the bar by Gabe Breeze.
Two of Rovers’ substitutes Jordan Gibson and Patrick Kelly went close late in the game but Breeze dealt with both well yet it was Carlisle who almost won but were denied by an offside flag after Cameron Harper fired home from close in.
There was late drama six minutes into time added on Rovers’ Jay McGrath was sent off for a second booking but the final whistle was imminent.
