Five Cumbrian restaurants have been named among the best in the world – with L’Enclume topping the list.
The prestigious La Liste’s Top 1,000 restaurants 2005 saw the Cartmel three-Michelin star venue share the top ranking – with a score of 99.5 – with eight other restaurants worldwide: Le Bernardin in the US; SingleThread in the US; Cheval Blanc by Peter Knogl in Switzerland; La Vague d’Or in France; Guy Savoy in France; Schwarzwaldstube in Germany; Matsukawa in Japan; and Lung King Heen in Hong Kong.
Other Cumbrian restaurants named in the list were : Forest Side in Grasmere 87.5, Allium, near Penrith 88.5, The Old Stamp House in Ambleside 84.0 and Lake Road Kitchen, also in Ambleside 82.0.
It is the second year in a row that Simon Rogan’s L’Enclume has been awarded the top ranking, the only UK restaurant to ever achieve that distinction since the inception of La Liste nine years ago.
Started in 2015 initially only publishing a list of 1000 restaurants, La Liste has grown to cover 195 countries and also now issues a parallel list highlighting the top 1000 hotels worldwide. With its own scoring system and based on reviews, guidebooks and trusted publications, the list is a handpicked selection of the world’s best restaurants.
Simon Rogan: ‘’Once more I’m honoured that L’Enclume has been recognised as the top British restaurant in La Liste for the second consecutive year. Being listed alongside restaurants that we admire is an immense privilege and as ever is a testament to the hard work, creativity and total dedication of every member of the team, who are the driving force behind all that we do.’
‘’For the Lake District to have five restaurants featured in La Liste showcases the culinary innovation that is present in the county, showcasing to the world what this area has to offer and why north of England as a whole is at the forefront of England’s continuously evolving and developing culinary scene.’’
