Carlisle City expect to play holders Workington Reds in the quarter final of the Fred Conway County Cup.
Officially, in last night’s draw, City were paired against either Reds or Whitehaven after the West Lancashire League side had won a penalty shoot-out at Borough Park.
But Whitehaven were subsequently expelled from the competition for fielding an ineligible player – and given seven days to appeal.
However, after a guilty plea to the rule breach, they have indicated they will not be appealing so it will be Workington, winners for the last two years, who will be travelling to Gillford Park, restored to the competition.
The draw was made live on BBC Radio Cumbria last night when the City v Reds tie was first out of the hat.
Wetheriggs and Langwathby still have to replay their second round tie which was abandoned first time round because of a serious injury.
The winners will have a home game against the Cumberland County League’s Aspatria.
Penrith from the Northern League also have County League opposition as they will travel to Unisun Athletic.
West Lancashire League side Cleator Moor Celtic will travel to Keswick of the County League.
All the quarter final ties have to be completed by February 8.
