Whitehaven manager Carl Short has stood down after being in charge at the County Ground since the end of August.
He took over at the West Lancashire League club at the end of August after Jon-Karl Benson resigned after three years as manager.
The final straw was yesterday’s 5-1 defeat at Lostock St Gerard’s.
George Frampton scored a 51st minute consolation for Whitehaven but they had gone in at half-time trailing 3-0 and conceded a fourth three minutes after the restart.
Tommy Gimrod scored his second goal after 75 minutes to complete Lostock’s nap hand.
Whitehaven issued a club statement through Craig Bristoe, vice chairman (football operations) who said: “The club would like to confirm that this afternoon we received the resignation of men’s First Team Coach Carl Short.
“Tom Powell has been placed in interim charge and will oversee first team matters for the time being.
“The club would like to put on record our thanks to Carl for his commitment and efforts during his time working with the men’s first team.
“Carl picked up a number of roles in the setup, his passion and commitment have been unquestionable and I plan to sit with him in the coming days to attempt to retain his knowledge and skills within the club.
“A further announcement will be made in due course.”
