A drugs raid in a Cumbrian village has resulted in an arrest.

Last Friday, December 6, Eden Neighbourhood Policing Team executed a warrant at an address in Hackthorpe, near Penrith.

A man was arrested on suspicion of possession of class A controlled drugs with intent to supply, possession of class B controlled drugs and possession of an offensive weapon in a private place.

In the early hours of Saturday, Callum Russell, 23, of Woodland Close, Hackthorpe, was charged with possession of a class B controlled drugs and possession of an offensive weapon in a private place.

He was remanded in police custody to appear before magistrates later that morning. The investigation into the possession of a class A controlled drugs with intent to supply is ongoing, police said.

He appeared before magistrates on Saturday morning and was remanded into custody, pending the case being heard at crown court.

Sergeant Martyn Irving, of Eden NPT, said: “This warrant is another example of Cumbria police’s commitment to pursuing those involved in drug dealing and criminality within our communities.

“Information from our local community is vital and I would continue to encourage anyone with suspicions that illegal activity is taking place in their community to come forward so that intelligence can be acted upon by our officers to make our community a safer place. We have contempt for criminality. It has no place in our neighbourhoods.”
