Date set for Whitehaven and Swinton Lions clash

Former Championship rivals Whitehaven and Swinton Lions have agreed a date for their second round Betfred Challenge Cup-tie.

Ahead of their return to League One, they have agreed on Saturday, January 25 for the game at the Ortus Rec with a 3pm kick-off.

It will be the first competitive game in charge of Haven for new head coach Anthony Murray following his switch from Workington Town.

Meanwhile Whitehaven have been drawn away at Midlands Hurricanes in the first preliminary round of the 1895 Cup.

The winners of that game will progress to the second preliminary round and face a trip to Keighley.

Local rivals Workington Town have a bye in the first round and will host Dewsbury Rams in the second preliminary round.

1895 Cup First Preliminary Round

  • Midlands Hurricanes v Whitehaven RLFC
  • Rochdale Hornets v Cornwall
  • Newcastle Thunder v North Wales Crusaders

Second Preliminary Round

(ties to be played weekend February 15-16)

  • Goole Vikings v Newcastle Thunder or North Wales Crusaders
  • Workington Town v Dewsbury Rams
  • Rochdale Hornets or Cornwall RLFC v Swinton Lions
  • Keighley Cougars v Midlands Hurricanes or Whitehaven RLFC
