Workington still can’t end their winless run against Warrington Rylands after their 2-1 NPL Premier Division defeat.
It means Reds haven’t won against Rylands in six meetings since their paths first crossed in N PL West.
In truth Reds probably deserved to get something out of this one, and in fact, had a great opportunity to level late in the game.
Lively substitute Tom Stephenson was brought down in the box but from the resultant penalty top scorer Steven Rigg saw his spot kick saved. Then when he went to put in the rebound he slipped.
Reds had been the better side for a large part of the second-half but couldn’t turn that possession superiority into goals.
They had turned round a goal behind but had the tonic of an early equaliser when a Matty Clarke cross evaded everyone to find the Rylands net.
An unmarked header from Matthew Regan at a corner had given the home side a 38th minute lead and Jake Burton grabbed the 76th minute winner with a well-placed shot into the top corner from 18 yards.
