
Round seven of the L&L Property Contractors Snooker League delivered some captivating performances across the two divisions last week.
None more so than Workington Veterans Club A’s 5-0 away victory over Whitehaven’s Rack Shack that was galvanised with a fantastic break of 100 from Vets A captain Kevin Basnett.
The fixture started with Mark Tunstall setting the tone with a confident 49-7 victory over Paul McAvoy, showcasing sharp tactical play that also included a well-constructed break of 30 to make it 1-0.
In frame two current county snooker champion Kevin Basnett stole the spotlight with a sensational clearance of exactly 100, from a very demanding set of balls, to dismantle Phil Denvir in a 118-1 victory and a 2-0 Vets A lead.
Up next Mark Tatton continued the momentum for Vets A, and with focus and finesse he composed a 57-28 win over Adam Morilla to move to 3-0.
As the next frame developed Paul Smith continued the Vets’ dominance, before Andy Moore clawed his way back into the game.
The frame went all the way to the black. Facing a thin cut to the corner pocket a nerveless Smith cooly deposited the final ball for a 74-64 win and a 4-0 Vets A advantage.
In the last frame of the match Vets A topped off an efficient evening’s work with a solid 60-19 victory to cap off their best result of the season.
Workington Veterans Club A remain fourth in Division One, moving to 17 points. Rack Shack stay third in Division Two with 11 points.
Division Two’s Station Road show-cased their strength at home, producing a commanding 4-1 win over Division 2’s Maryport Social, with Kevin Kirkham shining on the back of a stunning break of 68.
Station Road’s Tom Thompson opened proceedings with a dominant 70-24 win against Ben Scott in a display of consistency and sharp potting for a 1-0 lead.
Darren Lawson extended Station Road’s advantage in frame two with a composed 71-42 victory over Andrew Sharp, show-casing his tactical prowess.
Maryport Social’s Andrew Scott brought the visitors back into contention with a hard-fought 49-7 win in frame three as he defeated the extremely capable John Teasdale to pull the score back to 2-1.
In frame four Kevin Kirkham turned on the style with an exceptional break of 68 to overcome Greg Todd by 75-6 earning the crowd’s admiration in the process.
At 3-1 to Station Road Mike Walker sealed the match for the Workington outfit with a measured 56-46 win over Gary Miller, rounding off an impressive team performance to end the match at 4-1.
Station Road remain second in Division One, moving to 19 points. Maryport Social stay fourth in Division Two on ten points.
Current Division One champions Workington Golf Club produced a dominant performance on the road to defeat Division Two’s Workington Conservative Club 4-1.
Golf Club captain Mark Brasted started strongly for the golfers, securing a controlled 56-42 victory over the hugely experienced Julian Plaza.
Two-times county singles champion Alan Moore countered the Golf Club lead with a near-flawless 55-7 win over Ryan Ismay highlighting his tactical awareness in abundance for 1-1.
Golf Club’s Bryan Walker delivered a composed display in frame three, defeating David Holland 65-44 in a tightly contested match-up to put his side 2-1 ahead.
Frame four saw Simon Fraser power past Brian Kendall 72-39 in an impressive performance to put the Golf club into an unassailable 3-1 lead.
In the last frame of the match Mark Cowen ensured he maximised his team’s advantage with a 76-21 win over Ryan Barker to give the Golf Club a 4-1 victory.
Workington Golf Club remain third in Division One, moving to 18 points. Workington Conservative Club stay second in Division Two on 16 points.
Finally, in the all-United Club clash, Division One’s United Club A asserted their superiority with a 4-1 win over their B team to keep up their unbeaten start to the season.
Mark Suitor produced a dominant performance in frame one defeating Stephen Jackson 68-29 with some sharp potting and clever safety play to put the A team 1-0 up.
In frame two Peter O’Hagan delivered a clinical 60-9 victory against Stephen Harrison, including a composed 34 break, as the United A cueist put his side 2-0 in front.
Clive Lister edged a thrilling battle on a re-spotted black to beat Jason Flitton 51-44 in frame three, giving United A a commanding 3-0 lead.
United B’s Shane Tallentire was quick to put a stop to the A team’s onslaught as he defeated Tony Hindmoor 55-28 in frame four to pull back to 3-1.
In the final frame of the match Andrew Mitchelhill sealed the victory with a composed 58-42 win over Adam Sowden to extend the United A’s winning margin to 4-1.
United Club A remain firmly top of Division One on 24 points. United Club B remain top in Division Two on 17 points.
