Kevin Basnett who hit a superb ton break

Round seven of the L&L Property Contractors Snooker League delivered some captivating performances across the two divisions last week.

None more so than Workington Veterans Club A’s 5-0 away victory over Whitehaven’s Rack Shack that was galvanised with a fantastic break of 100 from Vets A captain Kevin Basnett.

The fixture started with Mark Tunstall setting the tone with a confident 49-7 victory over Paul McAvoy, showcasing sharp tactical play that also included a well-constructed break of 30 to make it 1-0.

In frame two current county snooker champion Kevin Basnett stole the spotlight with a sensational clearance of exactly 100, from a very demanding set of balls, to dismantle Phil Denvir in a 118-1 victory and a 2-0 Vets A lead.

Up next Mark Tatton continued the momentum for Vets A, and with focus and finesse he composed a 57-28 win over Adam Morilla to move to 3-0.

As the next frame developed Paul Smith continued the Vets’ dominance, before Andy Moore clawed his way back into the game.

The frame went all the way to the black. Facing a thin cut to the corner pocket a nerveless Smith cooly deposited the final ball for a 74-64 win and a 4-0 Vets A advantage.

In the last frame of the match Vets A topped off an efficient evening’s work with a solid 60-19 victory to cap off their best result of the season.

Station Road’s Tom Thompson opened proceedings with a dominant 70-24 win against Ben Scott in a display of consistency and sharp potting for a 1-0 lead.

Darren Lawson extended Station Road’s advantage in frame two with a composed 71-42 victory over Andrew Sharp, show-casing his tactical prowess.

Maryport Social’s Andrew Scott brought the visitors back into contention with a hard-fought 49-7 win in frame three as he defeated the extremely capable John Teasdale to pull the score back to 2-1.

In frame four Kevin Kirkham turned on the style with an exceptional break of 68 to overcome Greg Todd by 75-6 earning the crowd’s admiration in the process.

At 3-1 to Station Road Mike Walker sealed the match for the Workington outfit with a measured 56-46 win over Gary Miller, rounding off an impressive team performance to end the match at 4-1.

Station Road remain second in Division One, moving to 19 points. Maryport Social stay fourth in Division Two on ten points.

Current Division One champions Workington Golf Club produced a dominant performance on the road to defeat Division Two’s Workington Conservative Club 4-1.
