Update on Barrow recycling collections

It is hoped that the majority of missed kerbside recycling collections in Barrow will be made today.

Westmorland & Furness Council issued an update today, Friday January 3, after it had been experiencing issues with staff sickness in the Barrow depot and one of the recycling vehicles being unavailable.

It resulted in delays in recycling pick-ups across the town.

The council said: “Crews will be aiming to pick up all recycling materials other than glass. Unfortunately, we do not have a glass collection vehicle available at this time and the contents of your glass recycling boxes will now be picked up on your next scheduled collection day.

“Our apologies for the disruptions to some recycling collections in the Barrow area in recent days and thank you again for your patience and understanding while we worked to resolve this.

“Other areas – All our collection crews are out in all areas today, but due to some difficult weather conditions and icy roads in some parts of Westmorland and Furness there may be disruptions to some of our scheduled collections if crews are not able to safely access collection points at this time.”
