In the week Luke Littler made history by being the youngest person to win the Darts World Championship, West Cumbrian youngsters are following in his footsteps.
The first Whitehaven Marras & Arras event of 2025 was a ground-breaking youth event take place at Hensingham ARLFC.
Junior Marras was competed by 24 of West Cumbria’s up-and-coming arrowsmiths.
All the competitors were aged 16 or under so this event was the first of its kind for Marras and Arras.
Oliver Roberts rose to the occasion, dropping just one leg all day on his way to a 2-0 victory in the final.
Organisers said they hoped that this competition can help to kickstart youth darts in the local area and have secured a number of sponsorships and donations to help buy bespoke equipment to run dedicated youth competitions.
Organisers thanked all of the players who competed, many of whom were playing in their first competition and congratulated Oliver on becoming Marras & Arras’ first junior champion.
Oliver said: “My dad and his friends regularly play darts in the local club and I have had a board in my bedroom for a while.
“When I first saw Luke Littler playing competitive darts at the highest level at a young age this inspired me to start playing competitively in the local area.
“I started playing with my dad and his friends as well as attending competitions at Marras & Arras. Hopefully this can help to kick start my own darting journey and push me to play to as higher level as possible.”
