Carlisle United fans are being urged to enjoy this weekend’s clash against Bradford City responsibly.
The Cumbrian club has teamed up with Cumbria police to ask people to make sure they don’t let emotions spill into criminal activity.
A bumper crowd is expected to attend Saturday’s match.
Chief Superintendent Carl Patrick said: “We are all looking forward to what will hopefully be a great event for both sets of supporters.
“We are expecting a big crowd to attend, therefore there will be a significant policing presence in and around the stadium and the city centre on Saturday.
“As with any high-profile event our officers will be on hand to ensure the safety of everyone.
“Whilst we appreciate the passion people have for their respective football team, we are asking fans to remain respectful, responsible and mindful of others to ensure everyone can enjoy the fixture safely.
“Where an individual engages in unlawful behaviour, the police will step in and take action.”
Nigel Clibbens, Carlisle United’s chief executive, said: “The game promises to have a big crowd. Rivalry has grown in recent seasons and that has made for a fantastic atmosphere at games, and it will be brilliant to see that again at this game.
“We want our fans to do the club proud, but we don’t want the passion to spill over into disorder or misbehaviour. Let’s make the headlines for the right reasons.”
